그래픽 디자이너 안상수

안상수는 52년 충주 출생으로 한국을 대표하는 시각 디자이너이자 한글 글꼴 디자인, 타이포그라피 디자인 분야의 전문가이다. 그는 2007년, 서적예술분야의 노벨상으로 불리는 구텐베르크상을 받았다. 1985년 탈네모틀 글꼴인 안상수체를 계발한 그는 이상체, 미르체, 마노체 등을 개발하여 새로운 한글 글꼴 디자인의 지평을 열었다. 1985년부터 1991년까지 안그라픽스의 대표를 역임했으며 한글발전에 기여한 공로로 한글학회로부터 표창을 받았고 신문가독성 연구로 한국신문협회의 한국신문상을 수상하였다. 그는 홍익대학교 시각디자인과와 동 대학원을 졸업했으며 한양대학교 대학원에서 응용미술학 박사학위와 영국 킹스턴대학교에서 명예박사학위를 받았다. 홍익대학교 디자인학부 교수를 역임했으며 현재 파주타이포그라비학교(PaTI: 파티)의 교장이자 서울디자인재단의 이사장이며 런던왕립미술학교 방문교수, AG 타이포그라피연구소 소장이다. 

Born in Chungju, Korea in 1952, Sang-soo Ahn is a leading figure in Korean typeface development and typographic design, and he is professor of Visual Communication Design at Hongik University in Seoul. He has several books on design-related subjects to his credit and copious essays and papers. He holds a number of awards and prizes including a commendation by the Korean Language Academy for meritorious contribution to the advancement of Hangul and the Icograda Education Award. In 1983, he was selected as Designer of the Year by Design magazine. He designed several major international exhibitions, and his work has been on display in many shows the world over.
